    Hiring research and conditional scenarios

    Some recent research flags weaker entry hiring in exposed work; broad labor-market studies do not yet show a clear economy-wide AI effect. Check this employer's recent beginner hires and training route. Age-group findings do not determine an individual's prospects.

    Stanford Digital Economy Lab (2026-08-12): The revised working paper reports a 19% employment shortfall for young workers in highly exposed occupations relative to keeping pace with less-exposed peers, mainly through lower hiring. It does not identify that gap as a causal AI effect or a personal hiring probability. Education controls weaken the pattern; some divergence predates generative AI and the ADP pattern is stronger than national survey benchmarks. The August headline uses a different descriptive measure from earlier adjusted headlines.

    Yale Budget Lab (2026-10-14): The October update finds no clear broad labor-market footprint aligned with AI exposure or usage: the occupational mix is not yet changing in ways that clearly align with AI, and usage measures show no connection to employment or unemployment changes. This is a different population and measurement approach from Stanford's young-worker payroll comparison. A broad null finding does not establish that entry routes are unaffected or predict what happens next.

    U.S. Census Bureau (2026-05-26): BTOS reported 19.8% of businesses using AI in any business function in the period ending May 3. This is national business adoption, not adoption in your occupation or at a local employer. The question broadened in November 2025 from producing goods/services to any business function; do not interpret the discontinuity as like-for-like adoption growth.

    Anthropic (September 2026, model v1.0): Economic outcomes depend on capability, adoption, autonomy, productivity and job-switching assumptions. These are scenarios, not probabilities assigned to this career. The model omits several economic/policy shocks and hyper-capable robotics; it cannot certify that physical work is protected.

    Charted planning prompts, not quantified forecasts or a reproduction of the 2030 model

    • Next 1–3 years: If adoption stays limited at employers you can reach. Verify current entry requirements and pay; build core skills and keep checking whether the workflow changes.
    • Next 1–3 years: If AI absorbs more routine beginner tasks. Ask how new entrants gain supervised practice, what evidence of skill is accepted, and whether paid entry places are still available before committing to training.
    • Next 1–3 years: If employers use AI mainly to assist workers. Build subject knowledge and output-checking skills; ask what people still review, sign off and remain accountable for.
    • Beyond three years: If capabilities, robotics, policy or demand change substantially. Revisit the route and budget. Current LLM usage measures do not cover all automation and do not establish a protected career.

    City of Philadelphia / PowerCorpsPHL — Home Repair Academy — 2026 cohort

    Availability: unknown. The City says applications opened August 3, 2026 for a 15-person cohort starting September 28. Neither reviewed live page states a closing date or confirms that applications remain open.

    Use the PowerCorpsPHL programme page to confirm whether the 2026 cohort still accepts applications, then request the weekly schedule, participant costs and payroll dates before relying on the route.

    • The City lists age 18 or older and a high school diploma or equivalent; selection into the 15-person cohort is not guaranteed.
    • PowerCorpsPHL lists an application, information session, aptitude test, interview and background check as selection steps.
    • The programme covers several residential trades. Its OSHA 30 and NCCER Core training does not by itself establish a destination occupation licence, apprenticeship placement or job offer.

    $15–$18 per hour gross. City-listed gross phase rates: $15/hour for three months of classroom and hands-on training, then $18/hour for a three-month employer internship based on performance; not take-home pay.

    Costs: Participant tuition, fees, tools, travel and other costs are not published. Paid training does not establish zero costs or an individual funding award.

    Travel: Philadelphia training locations and partner-employer work sites are not published. Confirm every required classroom, hands-on and internship site and schedule before estimating travel.

    Unresolved: The City says no previous skilled-trades experience is required; PowerCorpsPHL says its Industry Academies are ideal for graduates of its foundations programme or applicants with six months to one year of prior industry or equivalent training. Confirm how the operator applies this preference to the 2026 cohort.
